The news that Facebook employs editors to help curate its “Trending Topics” section was a rare glimpse into the inner workings of a company that has tremendous control over the journalism its users see. More and more, Americans turn to the platform for their news, but the customization of news feeds has taken control of that coverage away from the media companies that supply it.
