Business Insider answers the question, “Do you still need to ‘warm up’ your care when it’s cold outside?”

Unless your car dates back to the 1980s, there is no reason to warm up the engine. Cars from that period in time had carburetors which twist ope a small plate to suck air and fuel through a tube and into the engine.

If the carburetor was too cold, it didn’t work properly, so you needed to warm up the car.

Newer cars (1990s and forward) have fuel-injection systems, which uses sensors to keep the ratio of air and fuel just right. More importantly they don’t have problems with cold temperatures.
