Donald Trump became the first Republican presidential candidate to unveil his immigration plan this past weekend.  The plan including having Mexicans build a wall to keep themselves out, ending the constitutional provisions of birth right citizenship, and deporting 10-11 million people.

Not to be outdone, Wisconsin Governor and presidential candidate, Scott Walker said, his immigration plan “was very similar to Trumps.”

It has become a sad day in this presidential primary when candidates are beginning to the take the lead from Trump. Where they are allowing him to influence the direction of the Republican Party and its position on issues.

There is no doubt that our immigration system is in dire need of repair, but upending the 14th and looking at the Dred Scott case, a dark time in our history, where the Supreme Court held “that African Americans, whether slave or free, had never been and could never become citizens of the United States, as they were excluded by the Constitution”, is no way to win votes, whether Latino or African American or independents or those in the center.
